NAPLAN Commences Tuesday 10 May

NAPLAN tests commence next week for students in Years 3 and 5. These tests run from Tuesday 10 through to Friday 20 May.

All students in Years 3 and 5 will complete the writing assessment on Tuesday 10. They will then sit the reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy assessments in the nine days that follow. All assessments will be conducted online in our two computer labs, except for Year 3 writing which will be paper-based and conducted in classrooms.

It is important your child attends school during the testing period. If however, your child is unwell and is absent, we will provide a limited number of make-up test sessions during the nine day testing window. Please note that all students must complete all four tests by Friday 20 May.

NAPLAN is just one aspect of our school’s assessment and reporting process. It doesn’t replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ progress.

You can support your child by reiterating the message we are giving at school; that students are just expected to do their best and that this test is only one tool in amongst many others that teachers use to make decisions regarding next steps in learning.

Last term, students participated in ‘NAPLAN practice tests’ to become familiar with the types of questions and functionalities available in the NAPLAN online assessment platform. Parents are invited to view the Public demonstration site if they too, would like to view the testing format.
